Meta: The Next Large Enterprise Software Company

Meta (formerly Facebook) will be the next big enterprise software company.

For the most part, Meta today is considered a consumer software company, with businesses advertising to reach consumers through the company’s products. So it isn’t that Meta doesn’t engage with and service businesses today; it does, but it isn’t considered an enterprise software company. That is about to change, though.

When then Facebook acquired Oculus in March of 2014 for $2.3 billion in cash and stock, remote work was still not widely adopted. Fast forward to 2022, and having been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, remote work is now prevalent.

Enter the metaverse of work. Facebook’s name change to Meta primarily represented and acknowledged personal metaverse. A space to virtually live, play, connect and explore. It is a personal escape into new experiences and places…so immersive that it feels real. It is beginning to deliver on the promise of a virtual world for fun and commerce. The same is happening with work. Remote work is now becoming virtual work. Not just virtual in the sense of being on a Zoom or other video and audio meeting platform, but actual virtual work.
